The European Union and Egypt held an economic sub-committee cluster meeting on Monday 12 September [by videoconference].

Experts from both sides engaged in a comprehensive and constructive discussion on many topics of mutual interest, including information society, environment, climate change, education, research and innovation, energy, youth and culture. They took stock of the latest developments and agreed on ways to further promote dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of both Egyptian and EU citizens.

Sub-committees are a mechanism through which experts from the EU and Egypt discuss the implementation of the cooperation between both sides in various fields, in addition to the relevant policies and regulations.

The EU-Egypt Association Council adopted last year the EU-Egypt partnership priorities for 2017-2020. The aim of the partnership priorities is to address common challenges, to promote joint interests and to guarantee long-term stability on both sides of the Mediterranean. They are guided by a shared commitment to the universal values of democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights.
