EU Climate Diplomacy Week: new law and environmental strategy in debate in Cairo

The European Union has organised a debate within the framework of ”Cairo Climate Talks” series to mark Climate Diplomacy Week, in cooperation with the German Embassy and the Ministry of Environment Dr. Yasmin Fouad, Minister of Environment attended and held an open dialogue with the non-state actors, NGOs and green business representatives to share the new law and strategies of the Ministry on solid waste management and plastic reduction.

On 25 September 2019, the EU Delegation to Egypt organised the opening conference of the “Climate Diplomacy Week”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment. The launch of the regional ‘CLIMA MED’ initiative, funded by the EU, was announced at the conference. The four-year programme allocates EUR 7 million to support southern Mediterranean countries towards sustainable, low carbon and climate resilient development.

During Climate Diplomacy Weeks, EU Delegations and embassies of several EU member states around the world hold various events (conferences, citizens’ debates, exhibitions, film screenings and other outreach activities) to foster dialogue and cooperation on climate change, showcase success stories and inspire further action.
