European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and African Union President Alpha Condé discussed, during a phone call on 18 November, reports of the inhumane treatment of migrants in Libya, in particular reports that slave auctions are being held in the country. They both expressed their total condemnation of these despicable acts and said that they are firm in their resolve to demand an immediate end to these criminal practices, as well as to human trafficking.

They both support demands made to the Libyan authorities to undertake swift action to track down the perpetrators of these crimes and to bring them to justice.

High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini confirmed the EU’s commitment to continue its support to the United Nations to ensure respect for human rights, and to improve migrants’ living conditions on Libyan territory.
