Maharat Foundation is organising an online debate session entitled “Public Communication, an Effective Tool to Enhance Access to Health Information” on 19 March. This session comes as part of a series of meetings and other activities that Maharat will conduct in cooperation with EuroHealthNet, a European network of actors in the field of public health, within the framework of a campaign coached by the EU-funded regional programme Med Dialogue for Rights and Equality.

The discussion will revolve around the need for governments’ transparency with regard to their strategies to combat the epidemic and their options for health measures in order to contribute to an environment conducive to all groups, including the most marginalized, that entitles them to access health services and all the information necessary to protect their health. This can be realized through effective communication strategies that enhance the ability of journalists as well as the civil society to access information and accountability.

The meeting will issue a series of recommendations to enhance the right to access information and public communication efforts to enable all society groups to make healthy decisions that contribute to the elimination of the pandemic.

Med Dialogue for Rights and Equality is an EU-funded Technical Assistance Programme with the overall objective to strengthen the role of CSOs active at the regional scale, in building sustainable development, regional cohesion and resilience, as well as in influencing policy-making in the Southern Neighbourhood and the Euro-Mediterranean Space. ‘Mobilising local communities on regional issues of common concerns to influence the agenda of public decision-makers and regional institutions, and involve CSOs in emerging regional agendas and thematic dialogues’ is its core attribute.
