The European Union (EU) in Egypt participated on Sunday, November 25th, in launching an awareness-raising campaign to combat sexual harassment in public transport, in an event held at the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation (MoIIC).

The EU supports the campaign in cooperation with MoIIC, the National Council for Women, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the ‘Agence Française de Développement’, the GIZ, USAID, Drosos Foundation, UN Women and RATP Dev, in addition to ‘SODIC’ and ‘Streetpal’.

The EU has been keen to strengthening girls’ and women’s voice and participation in the public sphere in full alignment with Egypt’s National Strategy for Women Empowerment (2030). “Our support to women’s empowerment in Egypt exceeded EUR 20 million worth of projects in economic and social development areas, in particular to prevent and combat violence against women.”

The launch of the campaign coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated worldwide until December 10th.
