A capacity-building training in the field of trade in services was held on 16-20 August for Algerian public officials from the departments and institutions related to this sector.

The training, held in the framework of the Support Programme to the Implementation of the Association Agreement (P3A), aims at providing the beneficiaries with a better understanding of the international context and the issues related to trade in services, in view of the preparation of the negotiations concerning Algeria’s accession to the free trade agreements or to the World Trade Organization.

In the framework of the partnership between Algeria and the European Union, the Association Agreement forms the legal basis governing the relationship between both parties from the economic and commercial, political, social and cultural points of view. It establishes a specific and deep partnership relationship in favour of a rapprochement between both partners. This agreement was signed in 2002 and came into effect on 1 September 2005.
