EUPOL COPPS, Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission discuss key reform plan

The Head of EUPOL COPPS (HoM), Karin Limdal, met with the Head of the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), Raed Radwan, on 08 January, in Ramallah. During the discussions the HoM said that the Mission is ready to provide support “at the strategic and technical level” to the PACC for developing and implementing an action plan for the national anti-corruption strategy. “The adoption of the Palestinian National Cross-Sectoral Strategy to Enhance Governance and Combat Corruption is a remarkable step forward according to us. However, having a solid and coordinated action plan to implement such a strategy is even more important now,” Mrs Limdal told Commissioner Radwan during the discussions.

 

Commissioner Radwan agreed with Mrs Limdal that raising awareness and establishing preventive measures are key factors in fighting corruption, adding about his aim to keep developing the competencies of PACC’s staff to further increase their expertise in their respective functions and competences. In relation to this, Mrs Limdal underlined the Mission’s continued support in implementing the recommendations of the previous gender audit conducted with the Mission’s support. Finally, the two discussed the corruption related risks involved in a future re-construction scenario In Gaza and the need for a specific oversight mechanism to prevent corruption.
