Combating violence against women in Palestine is an endless process, which must be advanced at different levels and through several parallel channels.
This is why the Mission, last week, facilitated three specialized training sessions on gender-based violence for 65 Palestinian lawyers (including 28 women) of the Palestinian Bar Association in Bethlehem, Ramallah and Nablus.
The training enabled lawyers to better understand and handle the often delicate circumstances in cases of gender-based violence. It also helped them to safeguard their clients’ rights properly and demand a more gender-sensitive approach from the other professionals in the courtroom.
The training, which was conducted by two Swedish judges, touched upon several issues such as the different forms of gender-based violence and impact of gender-based violence from several perspectives. During the training, lecturers and participants also shared their experience on the complications in dealing with gender-based violence and the best practice to handle such problems.
Ultimately, and hopefully, the training will lead to more gender-based violence cases being resolved in an increasingly professional way.
The activity was initiated by the Mission’s Rule of Law Section and organized by Swedish National Courts Administration.
