The European Union presented its External Investment Plan in a forum in Tunis, Tunisia, on March 15. The event gathered financial institutions and economic operators. The forum aimed at promoting the funding opportunities that the European External Investment Plan (PIE) offers, and allowing the Tunisian economic operators to be the first in the Mediterranean to benefit from this plan.

With a budget of 4.1 billion euros, the PIE is an EU-funded financial instrument intended to facilitate for the economic operators the access to funding from banks and investment funds.

Between 2011 and 2018, the EU granted nearly 2 billion euros to Tunisia in the framework of the Privileged Partnership that unites both parties. The EU support to Tunisia mainly covers the equitable access to social services, the support to the rule of law and democratic governance, the support to companies, to growth and to job creation.
