The UfM Field Visits: Traditional Building Skills event recently took place in Marseille on 13-14 March 2025, as part of an ongoing initiative to preserve and promote traditional construction techniques in the Southern Mediterranean region. This two-day field visit brought together stakeholders from Morocco and Tunisia to explore successful programmes focused on teaching and applying traditional building skills. The discussions centred on innovative methods for integrating these techniques into certified training programmes, with the aim of fostering sustainable building practices and creating meaningful, skilled jobs linked to heritage protection. The key objectives of the event were to raise awareness and preserve vernacular architecture, explore ways to incorporate traditional construction techniques into modern training programmes, promote solutions adaptable to current climate challenges, and encourage the establishment of certified programmes for traditional building skills in participating countries.
