Federica Mogherini and UfM new Secretary General Nasser Kamel held talks on the state of play of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of European Commission, met yesterday with the new Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Ambassador Nasser Kamel on his first official visit in his new capacity.

High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini reaffirmed the support and commitment of the European Union to the Union for the Mediterranean. She commended the UfM work in facilitating cooperation between all actors in the Mediterranean, including through holding of sectorial Ministerial Meetings on strategic topics for the region such as youth employment, blue economy, transport and mobility, climate resilience and digital economy. 

HRVP Mogherini and SG Kamel also discussed the preparations of the 3rd UfM Regional Forum, gathering the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 43 Members of the UfM. The Forum, set to take place on 8 October in Barcelona, will provide the opportunity to take stock of these past ten years and discuss the prospects for the future work of the Union for the Mediterranean.
