Federica Mogherini speaks to UNHCR Filippo Grandi and William Lacy Swing of IOM

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, held yesterday a phone-call with Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and William Lacy Swing, Director General of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), in view of the upcoming European Council where migration, including its external aspects, will be high on the agenda.

In the talk, they discussed the cooperation among the respective organisations as well as a broader EU-UN-African Union cooperation, highlighting some concrete results achieved, such as Assisted Voluntary Returns from Libya of almost 28.000 people since January 2017 and evacuations by UNHCR of 1700 persons, of which 300 directly from Libya, and also looking at avenues to strengthen this positive cooperation.
