On the 27th March, significant saving impacts from 10 Palestine companies of the MED TEST II project will be presented in Bethlehem. The learnings, results, and recommendations from this SwitchMed component, will be shared to inform other Palestine companies on the opportunities of how to reduce their resource consumption and production costs.
The EU funded SwitchMed program has since 2015, through UNIDO, implemented the MED TEST II project, to demonstrate a business case for resource efficient and cleaner production in Palestine. 10 companies from the food sector were selected to showcase how the UNIDO TEST concept can work in the food industry sector of Palestine.
Significant savings in energy, water, and raw materials, have been achieved for the partaking companies and this will enable them to operate with lower production cost – a vital condition for competing on the international markets.
Together with representatives from the Minister of National Economy, the Environment Quality Authority, and the EU Delegation to West Bank and Gaza Strip, UNIDO and Palestine Academy for Science and Technology (PALAST) will present a national roadmap for resource efficiency, showing how the TEST methodology can be applied in other companies and sectors of Palestine.
The SwitchMed sustainable consumption and production programme aims to promote a switch by the Mediterranean economies towards sustainable consumption and production patterns and green economy, including low-emission development, through demonstration and dissemination of methods that improve resource and energy efficiency. It also seeks to minimise the environmental impacts associated with the life cycle of products and services and, where possible, to promote renewable energy.
