The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) will launch their new Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) for Egypt at a conference in Cairo on 21 March.

The conference be will be addressed by key note speakers including Egypt’s Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Dr Sahar Nasr and  Reinhold Brender, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Egypt.

Under the GEFF programme, loans backed by grants from the EU are provided via banks for energy efficiency and small-scale renewable energy investments by private companies in Egypt. Similar programmes to deliver climate finance programmes via the banking sector have already been successfully rolled out in many other EBRD countries of operations.

The conference in Cairo will include two panel discussions: one on the role of financial institutions and donors promoting business growth via the green economy, and one on the public institutions and businesses.
