Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met on Wednesday 16 March 2016 in Brussels with the King of Jordan Abdullah II to reaffirm the EU engagement with Jordan and to discuss the political and security situation in the region. At the meeting, Mogherini highlighted the EU’s will to “strengthen and broaden the longstanding EU-Jordan partnership in light of the challenging domestic and regional situation”, the EU Diplomatic Service said in a press release.

The King and the EU High Representative “discussed efforts taken forward since the London pledging conference on Syria” (in February 2016) and “as regards the Middle East Peace Process, the HR/VP has reaffirmed that a consolidated engagement by the international community remains crucial and that preventing escalation and violence on the ground remains a priority”, the press release underlined.
