ClimaSouth, a project funded by the EU, announced in a press release on Wednesday 20 January, that the Climate Change Team of the Lebanese Ministry of Environment – with the support of the United Nations Development Programme and funding from GEF – had “produced a series of national greenhouse gas inventories and mitigation analysis reports for six of its sectors: Energy, Transport, Waste, Industrial Processes, Agriculture, and Land-Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry.”

In 2011 the energy sector in Lebanon accounted for 74% of the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions and is therefore the main contributor to GHG emissions.
