On 27 January in Milan, MEDREG participated in a study visit organised for Tunisian delegates from STEG – the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas-, and from relevant Tunisian Ministries. Hosted by the Italian energy regulator “L’Autorità di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente” (ARERA), and sponsored by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) which is the German Corporation for International Cooperation, in collaboration with Centro Studi Internazionali (CESI), the study visit aimed at strengthening the technical capabilities of STEG and Tunisian Ministerial employees.

The visit focused on ARERA’s regulatory landscape and policies governing renewable energy, the import and export of energy in Italy as well as ARERA’s role in regulation, supervision, and analysis of the dynamics of the electricity market in Italy. Exposed to the Italian regulatory framework governing the import and export of energy, STEG’s representatives and the Ministerial employees benefited from valuable information given the TUNITA interconnection due to be operational in a few years, as a way to integrate more renewables in the power systems.
