MEDREG welcomed sixty participants in its biannual training for junior staff of energy regulators in the Mediterranean region to help them understand how energy rules work and what regulators do. This programme covered ten sessions to give participants a good grasp on energy regulation, its benefits, and the important jobs of regulators.

The training started with the basics of energy rules, exploring the goals that regulators aim for. It addressed what regulators do and how their jobs have changed over time to fit the needs of the energy market.
It also took a close look at how regulators protect consumers and make sure everyone gets fair treatment. The session provided an understanding of how electricity markets work, from big transactions to what the consumer pays at home, focusing on figuring out the right prices for different parts of the energy system.

The training also covered the gas sector by exploring how markets are evoloving and how regulators need to adapt to them. This includes making sure access to gas facilities is fair, like pipelines and storage areas. Throughout the training, the speakers kept the sessions practical with real examples from decision makers in the energy world.

The goal was to give junior staff a strong foundation, so they can be a valuable part of shaping the energy future in the Mediterranean. As MEDREG works towards a shared way of completing its aim, this training is a key step in building a skilled group of junior energy regulators ready to make a positive impact.
