MEDREG Secretariat Director Takes Part in the Arab-African Energy Regulators Conference 2024

Hosted by the League of Arab States (LAS) on 25-26 November in Cairo, MEDREG Secretariat Director, Hasan Ozkoc, participated in the “Arab-African Energy Regulators Conference 2024” jointly organised by the Arab Electricity Regulators Forum (AERF) and the Arab Bank for Development in Africa (BADEA), with the collaboration of the African Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR).

 

Mr. Ozkoc emphasised the critical importance of consistent, transparent, and predictable regulations to pave the way for the urgent investments needed, particularly in Africa. He also stressed the necessity of closer cooperation and collaboration among regions, highlighting the pressing need for investments in cross-border initiatives. Such efforts aim to ensure interoperability and integration across regions, unlocking significant benefits and fostering shared progress.

 

The event brought together representatives from electricity regulatory bodies across 20 African nations and 15 Arab countries. Taking place over two days, the conference aimed to advance the development of effective regulatory frameworks for public utilities. Discussions focused on harmonising regulatory policiesfostering collaboration, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices between the Arab and African energy regulatory forums.
