Meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean Energy Platforms: towards a sustainable Energy Transition in the Mediterranean

The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) hosted this past 29 and 30 January the annual meeting of the UfM Energy Platforms in Barcelona, Spain. The UfM Energy Platforms are the only existing dialogue forum gathering all Euro-Mediterranean countries as well as the key stakeholders dealing with electricity markets, renewable energy and energy efficiency as well as gas in the Mediterranean region.

Several completed or ongoing studies on key issues for the energy sector in the region such as grid connections, regulatory options for the stimulation of infrastructures investments, smart grids, the implementation of a statistics code of practice, or the role of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the Euro-Mediterranean region interalia were discussed, showing the potential that exists in the region.
