EU High Representative for foreign affairs Federica Mogherini called on all parties in Syria to return to the negotiating table to work on the country’s political transition, at the International Syria Support Group meeting held yesterday in Vienna.

After a day of intense discussions, the International Syria Support Group agreed a four-page joint statement underlining the international community’s ‘determination to strengthen the Cessation of Hostilities’, ‘to ensure full and sustained humanitarian access in Syria’ and ‘to ensure progress toward a peaceful political transition’.

“Out of the Group’s meeting today came a very strong call to all parties in Syria to come back to the table of negotiations for talks in Geneva in order to enter into the work on the transition. This, I would say, is the main political outcome of the meeting,” Mogherini told the media after the talks. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
