The 26th edition of the European Film Weeks in Morocco kicked off on Monday 11 November at Cinéma Le Colisée in Marrakech with the screening of “ The truth ” by Hirokazu Kore-Eda. The film was selected as the opening film at the 76th Venice International Film Festival, where it premiered on 28 August 2019.

” I am particularly pleased to open the 27th edition of the European Film Weeks in Marrakech and in this mythical hall of the Colisée”, stated Claudia Wiedey, Head of the Europen Union (EU) Delegation to Morocco during the opening ceremony. She added : “François Truffaut, one of the greatest European filmmakers of the 20th century, said: “The best view in a movie theater is to go down to the front of the room, turn around and see the light on the screen reflect on the faces of the public “. To see you tonight so many confirms our choice to continue to offer strong and singular films signed by very great authors, by emerging filmmakers or others to discover and who, the time of this film window, deliver their gaze on their society.”

EU-funded initiative, the European Film Weeks in Morocco are organised on an annual basis since 1991, in cooperation with the embassies and cultural institutes of EU Member States located in Morocco. It aims to build and develop the cultural links between the EU and Morocco and to contribute to a better understanding of European values through the European film industry.
