Refugees: EIB pledges $3.4 billion in support for essential infrastructure

European Investment Bank (EIB) President Werner Hoyer has urged government ministers, Multilateral Development Banks, and international institutions to support longer term investment that helps create jobs and critical infrastructure for regions affected by the current refugee crisis.
 
Speaking at a major pledging conference to tackle the crisis, held in Washington DC on Friday 15 April 2016, Hoyer said that the EIB aims to provide an extra 3.4 billion dollars over the next five years to create jobs and support essential infrastructure in the Western Balkans, Turkey, and the MENA region”. “We must not lose sight of longer term needs”, he said. (EU Neighbourhood Info
