Palestine, with the support of the EU-funded SwitchMed programme, has developed a roadmap for mainstreaming Sustainable Consumption and Production in three relevant sectors: Tourism, Housing and Construction and Agriculture and Food.

The sectors were selected based on the SCP assessment that was developed in 2015 under the SwitchMed program. All relevant stakeholders in the different sectors were consulted and they shared there inputs in series of workshops, meetings, and consultations.

The Sustainable Consumption and Production National Action Plan, covering the period 2017-2022 was officially launched by Prime Minister Dr Rami Hamdallah. The Prime Minister called in his keynote speech upon all national Ministries and entities, as well as at the international community to make the implementation of the SCP-NAP one of their priorities.

The SwitchMed sustainable consumption and production programme aims to promote a switch of the Mediterranean economies towards sustainable consumption and production patterns and green economy, including low emission development, through demonstration and dissemination of methods that improve resource and energy efficiency. It also seeks to minimise the environmental impacts associated to the life cycle of products and services, and, as opportune, to promote renewable energy.
