The old campus at The American University of Cairo hosted local and global entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem stakeholders, to network and discuss gaps and opportunities, in December 1-3 in Cairo. SwitchMed attended the event to contribute in making the switch to a green, circular and social economy in the Mediterranean a reality.
RiseUp Summit is the MENA region’s largest 3-day innovation and entrepreneurship event, taking place in the heart of downtown Cairo at the Greek Campus. It gathers bright minds, inspiring entrepreneurs, investors and media from more than 120 countries to connect and share their ideas. The summit includes workshops, inspiring talks, panel discussions, startup stations, pitch competitions, and networking platforms with industry experts.
Daniel Hires, Manager of the Switchers plateform participated in the summit to meet green entrepreneurs in Egypt, connect with the local ecosystem to identify opportunities for the community, and to discuss collaboration possibilities with other entrepreneurship support and funding organizations: “RiseUp is a fantastic networking opportunity since you meet everyone relevant to the Egyptian startup scene and many from the region. As an advocate of impact startups, it was particularly great to see impact investment on the program, and the panel discussion was a great opportunity to meet others looking to build up this sector.”
The SwitchMed sustainable consumption and production programme aims to promote a switch by the Mediterranean economies towards sustainable consumption and production patterns and green economy, including low-emission development, through demonstration and dissemination of methods that improve resource and energy efficiency. It also seeks to minimise the environmental impacts associated with the life cycle of products and services and, where possible, to promote renewable energy.
