Throughout March and April, about 150 people from 50 companies from Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia were trained in the field of Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) as part of the MED TEST II project, implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) within the framework of the EU-funded SwitchMed programme.

Closely linked to Environmental Management Accounting, MFCA is a tool for improving material productivity in order to reduce the relative consumption of materials, energy and water that may consequently help reducing related environmental impacts.

Similar workshops will be conducted in Egypt, Palestine and Algeria in May.

The SwitchMed sustainable consumption and production programme aims to promote a switch of the Mediterranean economies towards sustainable consumption and production patterns and green economy, including low emission development, through demonstration and dissemination of methods that improve resource and energy efficiency. It also seeks to minimise the environmental impacts associated to the life cycle of products and services, and, as opportune, to promote renewable energy. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
