At the end of a two-day visit to Tunis by European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) President Georges Dassis on Thursday 14 April 2016, the EESC announced the signature, with representatives of the Quartet, of an agreement that strengthens the links between European and Tunisian civil societies.

The signing of the agreement sends a positive signal to leaders on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea. It confirms the key-role of civil society in Tunisian participative democracy and in the country’s relations with Europe, including in the joint follow-up for the DCFTA (Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement), negotiations for which begin next week.
