In the framework of the ENI-SEIS II South support mechanism, a delegation of Tunisian experts from the Ministry of Industry, the Tunisian Environment Agency (ANPE), the Tunisian Observatory (on Environment and Sustainable Development OTEDD) and the Waste Agency (ANGED) is visiting the Environment Agency Austria in Vienna from 28-31 January 2019 to learn more about Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR).

For tracking and monitoring sources of pollution a Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) has been proven to be an efficient tool. The PRTR Programme was introduced in the Mediterranean region in the form of pilot projects to be implemented in selected industrial areas. Recently with the support of the European Environment Agency, UN environment/Mediterranean Action Plan and EU-funded ENI SEIS II South, Tunisia received a financial support to conduct a PRTR pilot project.

During this 4-day visit, the Tunisian experts will:

  • exchange experience in the field of PRTR implementation (institutional set up, legal basis and technical implementation);
  • jointly develop set of recommendations for PRTR implementation in Tunisia, including drafting of next steps;
  • visit selected industrial sites.
