Tunisia has received today 93,600 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine which will ensure that health workers and those most vulnerable to the virus are vaccinated. This first batch of vaccines was acquired under the multilateral COVAX mechanism, which is largely funded by the European Union and its Member States.

From the start, the EU and its Member States (Team Europe) contributed €2.2 billion to this mechanism to ensure WHO-approved vaccine doses in 92 low- and middle-income countries to make COVID-19 vaccines a global public good.

In total, Tunisia will receive through COVAX 4.3 million doses of vaccine that will allow it to cover at low prices enough doses of vaccines, whose safety and reliability have been verified transparently, to immunize 20% of its population.
