The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is seeking to request the services of experienced journalists/writers to produce visibility materials for EED funded initiatives across the regions where we work.

This will be an ongoing consultancy with ad-hoc work provided to a pool of journalists who are specialists in the regions where EED works. It is important that journalists are native or near-native speakers, able to write copy to an international standard, and that they also speak the languages of EED grantees. A significant proportion of interviews will be conducted in languages other than English.

The consultant can be based within the relevant regions or elsewhere. Interviews can be carried out in person or on-line.

Requirements

  • Native or near-native English speaker with substantial and proven experience of writing for English-language media (examples to be provided)
  • Good knowledge of EED languages (including Arabic, French, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, BHS, Albanian) with ability to conduct interviews in one or several of these languages.
  • Knowledge of specific country context and experience of living/working these countries.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work on own initiative.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience of audio-visual product development with evidence provided of previous work assignments.
  • Degree in international affairs, sociology, politics, communications or media related studies or equivalent.

Description of tasks:

  • Developing and writing First Person Stories on EED grantees from the regions and countries where EED works in close coordination with EED Programme and Communications teams.
  • Ensure gathering of audio-visual material on stories to include audio-visual footage. Provide advice to local grantees on filming this material.
  • Assist in the production of first-hand testimonies from grantees to illustrate articles
  • Preparation of social media campaigns to support stories.
  • On occasions, the writers/journalists may be asked to produce other materials.
