Under the technical assistance project, the overall aim is to strengthen the National Office for Food Safety (Office national de sécurité sanitaire des produits alimentaires — ONSSA) in order for it to carry out its assignment with a view to improving food safety in Morocco as well as consumer protection, by supporting the process of convergence with the requirements of the acquis and European good practice. The project’s specific aims include helping to:
(i) improve health inspections of plant and animal products as well as products of animal origin;
(ii) upgrade laboratories, including setting up reference laboratories;
(iii) create a reliable, secure and ongoing exchange of information between ONSSA’s information systems and those of its partners; and
(iv) develop a strategy and communication tools for ONSSA’s institutional promotion.
