MEDSTAT V is the regional statistical programme in the Southern Neighbourhood countries. The purpose of MEDSTAT V is to improve the development, production and dissemination of reliable and comparable statistical data in the Southern Neighbourhood countries as well as to strengthen the institutional capacity of the partner countries’ National Statistical Institutes and other producers of official statistics.
MEDSTAT V covers the following thematic areas:
Horizontal issues include: quality; information technology and information systems; visibility; communication and relationship with users; administrative and new sources and human resources management.
Results expected to be achieved by the programme:
Result 1: Contribution to increased development, production and dissemination of reliable, timely and comparable good quality statistics, including gender sensitive data, in the priority thematic areas in line with European and/or international norms and standards.
Result 2: Transferral and exchange of statistical knowledge, best practice and know-how through different programme activities (e.g. on-site, online or hybrid training courses, workshops, study visits, technical assistance).
Result 3: Improved skills and qualifications of NSI staff through different programme activities.
Result 4: Better coordination of data collection across the region.
Result 5: Facilitation of South-South cooperation and peer exchange at the regional level in the area of statistics.
Result 6: Strengthened role of NSIs, better awareness of the coordinating role of the NSI and cooperation and coordination between the NSIs and other national producers of official statistics.
Result 7: Progress in the implementation of the Statistics Code of Practice for the Neighbourhood South countries.
Result 8: Contribution to the progress of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Result 9: Better recognition of EU funding and support in the area of statistics in the Southern Neighbourhood countries and the region, in line with the communication and visibility plan and principles of transparency.
