NET-MED Youth seeks to improve access and effective participation of young people in national planning and policies in Southern Mediterranean countries.

To achieve this, the programme focuses on three areas:

1. Youth Policy

NET-MED Youth builds the capacities of young women and men to help them take part in efforts to revise national legislation on youth, to advocate for the development of national youth policies, and lobby for their full implementation. It also supports the role of youth organisations in monitoring policy.

2. Youth and Media

The programme has developed different activities to survey young people’s opinions about the media, and to monitor their representation in the media. It works to promote youth-friendly, inclusive, and fair media coverage, carries out trainings and disseminates resources to promote freedom of expression, media literacy, and youth-generated media content, and holds capacity building programmes for young journalists, bloggers and citizen journalists.

3. Youth and Employment

Working with employment experts, national stakeholders and youth organisations, NET-MED Youth analyses existing employment barriers, and assesses the skills needed for the future. It develops reports on the labour market, youth transition and data availability, as well as tools for skills anticipation. It also holds workshops to empower young people to voice their concerns about skills and employment, and carries out advocacy campaigns so that businesses can be youth-friendly.
