The action covers the operating costs of the European Endowment for Democracy (EED), a foundation whose main purpose is direct grant-making to organisations that work to promote democracy and human rights through specific flexible procedures.
Countries covered: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Ukraine and Russia, as well as countries and territories neighbouring the Neighbourhood region (Central Asia, Gulf, Sahel).
The main objective is to contribute to the democratisation and to the social and economic development of partner countries by supporting pro-democracy activists. The EU aims to enable this support by providing funding for the functioning of the European Endowment for Democracy.
