Brief Description

Thaqafa Daayer Maydoor is a 4-year EU-funded regional programme (ENI Southern Neighbourhood) that fosters a cultural ecosystem as an enabling environment for the social and economic inclusion of young people. It does so by supporting cultural institutions, initiatives and individuals to strengthen their capacities and increase their reach through funding, knowledge exchange and networking opportunities. The programme will build on the long lasting partner experience as well as previous EU-supported actions like Med Culture.

Countries covered: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia (and diaspora from Syria and Libya).

Objectives

The project’s main objective is to foster a thriving cultural ecosystem as an enabling environment for the political, social and economic inclusion of young people and least favored segments of the population across Europe’s Southern Neighbourhood.

More specifically, Thaqafa Daayer Maydoor seeks to:

enhance capacities of cultural organisations and initiatives using a variety of comprehensive tailor-made approaches;

promote and increase access to arts and culture in remote areas beyond the region’s cultural hubs and among the least favored segments of the local population;

promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, especially among youth.

Actions in brief

The programme includes five work packages to strengthen the ecosystem approach:

1.   Connecting local and regional cultural alliances

Established and operating organisations, involving and working with cultural managers, innovators and artists, who are willing to take up one or more ecosystem functions and (re-)position themselves in the region by coming up with a bespoke action learning framework that they can implement in collaboration with other promising organisations and initiatives.

2.   Support youth-led artistic and cultural actions

Young artists, cultural actors and innovators, who will be trained on community-based and contextual artistic project development and methodologies through collaborative laboratories, to pilot their projects using incubation grants and implement artistic and cultural productions.

  1. South/North collaboration fellowships

Connecting the cultural ecosystem from the ENP-South region and from Europe who are eager to connect with other South & North regions and other actors using mobility and collaboration grants;

  1. Ecosystem Academy

The Ecosystem Academy is a cross-cutting resource center that connects all the learning needs and knowledge resources of the programme’s work packages;

  1. Dissemination and exploitation

Promoting visibility and contributing to policy dialogues on the local and regional levels as a tool for advocating for democratic access to culture.
