Ursula Von der Leyen proposed, as the new President of the European Commission from 1 December 2019, a new pact for migration and asylum as one of the strategic objectives of the new Commission. Among its priorities: the reform of migration and asylum management and greater involvement of member states with countries of origin of migrants.
The EU is once again facing one of the most controversial issues since the 1995 Schengen Agreement: the management of borders and of African mobility through it.
