On 1 June, which is celebrated as International Children’s Day in a number of Council of Europe member states, a new product on the rights of the child in the digital environment is being made available to children and young people under the age of 18.
A leaflet entitled “Learn about your rights in the digital environment” was produced. It represents a child-friendly and appealing presentation of Recommendation CM/Rec(2018)7 of the Committee of Ministers to member States on Guidelines to respect, protect and fulfil the rights of the child in the digital environment.
The leaflet also presents the key rights that children have in the digital environment and can claim from governments, schools, business and other stakeholders, and points to possible action that notably adults must take to ensure that children stay safe while using digital technology. The document and its way of presenting these rights to children have been designed in collaboration with a group of children who were consulted in the publication process.
