The EU and Morocco reinforce their social partnership

Mrs Claudia Wiedey, Head of the EU Delegation to Morocco, and Mr Mohamed Boussaid, minister of Economy and Finance, have signed in Rabat a funding agreement related to the social protection support programme which aims to support the Moroccan efforts to reduce inequalities and improve social cohesion for a fair access to basic social services.

The general objective of this programme of a total amount of €100 million focuses on four main areas of intervention which are:

  1. An integrated policy of social protection.
  2. A controlled development of social assistance through the improvement of the access to rights and the targeting of population groups in precarious situation.
  3. The development of social service benefits.
  4. The extension of the basic health coverage to reach universal health coverage.

This new partnership complements other EU support programmes to Morocco in the field of health and social protection, such as the Basic Health Coverage programme which aims to ensure to all the Moroccan population the access to health care benefits.
