TunisiaEU-funded D-Jil to provide grants to hackathons winning projects
250 candidates responded to the first “D-Jil” call for projects. From these, 30 projects were pre-selected by a panel made up of representatives of D-Jil’s partners.
Sixteen of them gathered from 6-8 July in Casablanca, Morocco, for a first hackathon session aimed at further refining the projects. The teams, made of journalists, web developers and graphic designers, faced each other in a friendly competition to work on the best presentation for their project. They were coached by six media, web, communication and entrepreneurship professionals from Algeria, France, Morocco and Tunisia.
A second session gathering 13 other pre-selected projects will be held in Beirut from 13 to 15 July.
Following these two hackathons, a jury of experts and Mediterranean youth will select the 10 projects to be awarded grants ranging from €60,000 to €80,000 for projects lasting 12 to 24 months.
Co-funded by the European Commission and implemented by CFI, D-Jil aims to support young citizens in the Arab world through the media. Its overall objective is to contribute to the active citizenship and empowerment of young people in the target countries of the southern neighbourhood by using online media as a vector.
