EU-funded ESMES partners in Lebanon and in Jordan conducted the first online and in person training sessions for Energy Teams from 24 February to 2 March. This training comes within ESMES objectives towards increasing civil society awareness and improving energy habits through engagement of students in sustainable energy practices.
Each Energy Teams includes a headmaster, two teachers, and ten primary level students from five public Lebanese and Jordanian schools, distributed in four different climatic zones: coastal, inland, western mid mountain, and high mountains. The Energy Teams from 34 schools in Italy, Spain, Jordan, Tunisia, and Lebanon will eventually participate in cross-border activities and compete in energy contests.
The Energy teams will be trained on data acquisition system operation, as they will be monitoring consumption behaviour with the systems that will be installed at their schools. The teams will be supported while they are designing an action plan based on the acquired data that involves the entire school community to optimize energy use and increase self-responsibility.
This group of students, which will be trained on the required energy equipment, will have to design an action plan based on the current situation with the aim of involving the entire school community in the common goal of improving behaviour, and to become more responsible with the environment.
ESMES project will specifically focus on the optimization of energy consumption in public schools through innovative, monitoring-based renewable energy and energy efficiency (REEE) pilot actions. At the same time, the project will improve the capacity of 5 public institutions in order to implement innovative energy rehabilitations.
