The working group for gender statistics established under the MEDSTAT IV project met in Paris on October 9-10, 2018. Among the discussions, the members of the working group reviewed a publication of comparable gender-related indicators that will be disseminated very soon. The publication covers various dimensions of gender from the disparities among men and women in education, health and employment to the role of women in public life and domestic violence.

The main objective is to provide comparable data for the region and as a consequence very recent available data from some countries are not all recorded. The publication gives references to national and international data banks for those who want to get more on certain countries. There are two complementary volumes: a short version focusing on key indicators with graphic presentation and a long version with tables covering more than 50 indicators.

This is the first publication of its kind in the region and it is intended to provide new and harmonised information for both the decision makers, the researchers, the press and the general public. This first edition will be updated regularly integrating the results achieved by the working group.
