TunisiaPalestine : EU Police and Rule of Law Mission visits Salfit Magistrate Court
The High Judicial Council together with the EU Police and Rule of Law Mission (EUPOL COPPS) representatives have paid a visit to Salfit Magistrate Court, in the northern West Bank, and met judges and representatives from its administration to assess their needs.
This visit is the first in a court needs mapping exercise to take place in each of the 11 court buildings, as advised by the Mission. The judges discussed issues related to management of cases, backlog and case allocation, court difficulties in relation to service of summonses and training needs with the participation of EUPOL COPPS’ Court Team.
After the visit, the High Judicial Council has expressed the intention to increase its number of judges.The Salfit Magistrate court started holding sessions in its EU-funded brand new building earlier in 2019. EUPOL COPPS is the European Union Co-ordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support.
The aim of the Mission is to contribute to the establishment of sustainable and effective policing arrangements and to advise Palestinian counterparts on criminal justice and rule of law related aspects under Palestinian ownership.
