In the framework of its global response to fight the pandemic, the European Union has adapted its ongoing assistance programmes and reoriented its 2020 programming in order to bring its emergency support to the Southern Neighbourhood countries, including Algeria, particularly in the health sector.

A budget of 43 million euros devoted to existing programmes is to be reallocated to meet the needs of Algeria in its fight against COVID-19, depending on the priorities expressed by the Algerian authorities. Both parties have worked together since the beginning of the health crisis in order to identify the purchases to be made to strengthen the hospital services.

The European aid will be mobilised through the UNDP in coordination with the Algerian authorities.
