The EU participated, as in previous years, in the International Agriculture Fair in Morocco on the occasion of its 12th edition, organised in Meknès. The event provides an opportunity to meet with professionals, farmers, as well as the general public coming from all around Morocco and the world.
Agriculture and rural development are key areas of EU cooperation with Morocco. The EU is providing substantial financial support to Pillar II of the Green Morocco Plan, dedicated to family and solidarity-based agriculture, in the framework of the support programme to Morocco’s agriculture policy. A first phase of this programme, completed in 2014, funded several projects benefiting farmers in the four regions of Fes-Meknes, l’Oriental, Draa-Tafilalet and Souss-Massa. The second phase “Agri2”, currently under way, aims to reinforce the achievements of this support to small farmers while promoting the protection of natural resources.
The EU also supports the national agricultural advice strategy. The latter establishes an innovative approach towards agricultural actors, based on a participatory approach targeting the central needs of the agriculture sectors actors. EU action is aimed at strengthening the skills of agriculture advisers to enable farmers to access quality advice. It also contributes to the development of governance and promotes the gender dimension by promoting the work of agriculture advisers. Environmental sustainability is also integrated into the public adviser training programme.
