The EuroMeSCo Annual Conference 2019 “Civil Society and Social Movements in the Euro-Mediterranean Region” will be held on 18-19 June in Barcelona. The event is organised by EuroMeSCo network and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed).

This year’s edition will explore the social movements that hit the roads over the last years in a number of Euro-mediterranean countries, and civil society dynamics in a Euro-Mediterranean comparative perspective. It will also analyse how policy actors, at the local, national and regional level, including the European Union, have engaged in relation with these movements and organisations and assess the potential of civil society as a driving force of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and integration.

Researchers from the EuroMeSCo network are invited to submit paper proposals to be presented at parallel working sessions of the conference. The deadline to submit proposals is 23 April 2019.

EuroMeSCo is the main network of research institutes and think tanks on politics and security in the EuroMediterranean region. The network comprises 106 institutes from 32 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean area, fosters joint research and debate on the key issues on the region´s agenda, and promotes relations and mutual trust between its members as well as with policy makers. Through its publications, dialogues and outreach activities, it is playing a key role in terms of confidence building, policy shaping and capacity building of its members.
