On Friday 13 September, High Representative Josep Borrell went to Madrid, Spain, to take part in the “Madrid meeting focusing on the implementation of the Two State solution”, hosted by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Spain José Manuel Albares Bueno.

Building upon international discussions held previously on the developments in the Middle East in Riyadh, and in Brussels, and benefiting from both a European and Arab perspective, the ministerial gathering will advance the discussion on the need to reinforce the engagement of the international community on peace and security in the Middle East, and the challenge to create an international consensus on a way forward based on the Two-State solution, also in the context of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly.

The High Representative also attended a meeting at Moncloa palace, followed by the ministerial at the Palacio de Santa Cruz and a working lunch at Palacio de Viana. In the margins of the event the High representative held several bilateral meetings with various counterparts.
