The European Commission announced the results of the 2021 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) call for Postdoctoral Fellowships: a total of €242 million will allow 1,156 researchers holding a PhD to work on projects addressing a wide range of global challenges such as climate change, health, migration, the fight against cancer, smart cities, soil and healthy oceans.

Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, said: “I warmly congratulate these 1,156 exceptional researchers who have been successful in their application to the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships action. I am also delighted to see that through the ERA fellowships call of the Spreading Excellence part of the Horizon Europe Work Programme, we were able to grant 50 additional fellowships to excellent researchers wishing to carry out their research in the so-called widening countries under the European Research Area.”

This was the first call of MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships under the Horizon Europe programme for research and innovation. The Fellowships give outstanding post-doctoral researchers the possibility to work on projects in all research fields while receiving training and supervision to enhance their skills and boost their career. Most projects selected are on the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities (24%), Life Sciences (22%), Chemistry (14%) and Environment and Geosciences (12%).
