Investment in the Mediterranean energy sector is forecast to reach EUR 700 billion in the 2020-2030 period, MEDREG, the association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators, said in a statement.

According to the regulators, this means that a sound analysis of investments is needed, for which the Union for the Mediterranean (UpM) and other institutions and stakeholders are working together under the umbrella of the UfM Energy Platforms. The first meetings of the UfM Regional Electricity Markets Platform and the UfM Gas Platform took place in Barcelona on 7 and 8 March 2016.

According to MEDREG, these meetings represent “the perfect example of technical regional cooperation” thanks to intense contribution of Mediterranean Energy Regulators and Mediterranean TSOs, who presented the draft proposal of a work programme for 2016-2017.
