MEDREG President Branislav Prelevic took part in the roundtable session themed “Energy Transitions across the Mediterranean: Enabling Infrastructure for a Sustainable Future”. Participants pointed out the vast solar and wind resources, strategic location, and immense potential for green hydrogen which characterised the Mediterranean region, making it a good candidate to lead the world in clean energy. As energy demands evolve and climate change requires urgent action, the Mediterranean stands as an energy powerhouse, ready to meet its own growing needs while supplying clean power to Europe and beyond.
Mr. Prelevic shared his perspective on the need for regulatory harmonisation of electricity, hydrogen or derivatives to facilitate international trade. He mentioned the challenges the different types of commodities face and the way forward until 2030 to ensure regulatory alignment, infrastructure investment, market development, and political cooperation to unlock the potential of international trade in electricity, hydrogen, and their derivatives.
