Sixteen managers and high-ranking officers will meet in Rome on 5-7 November 2019. Coming from national services of civil protection and disaster risk management agencies of South Mediterranean partner countries, they will identify a common road map in order to enhance national and regional capacities to work with the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). This task will be performed in collaboration with the French, Italian and Spanish civil protection Directorates-General.

This workshop is the sixth regional meeting organised by the EU-funded euro Mediterranean cooperation programme on disaster risk management, PPRD South 3.

The meeting will start with the presentation of UCPM and its tools, as well as the required national capacities to activate them and use them efficiently. A series of examples of international missions carried out in the framework of UCPM will highlight the added value of the European cooperation in terms of disaster preparedness.

A debate will follow in order to identify the aspects requiring further efforts of collaboration, and to prepare an action plan for the next eighteen months.

The overall objective of EU-funded PPRD South 3 is to contribute to increasing resilience and reducing the social, economic and environmental costs of natural and man-made disasters in the ENP South region, based on the results of the PPRD South Program and the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
